HOTEL CASTELLO DI PETROIA - 4 STARS

I REALLY ENJOYED IT

"I really enjoyed Castello di Petroia. Huge, comfortable accommodation. Good food in interesting, historical surroundings. The weather, as you know, was hot, so thank goodness for the roof terrace. Lots of space to spread out, terrific views in shade with a gentle breeze.  Charles' tutoring was, as expected, most useful/helpful". - Robert - Castello di Petroia July 2017

OUR FAVOURITE LOCATION

"After several holidays with you we would like to say this was our favourite location".  It was a wonderful holiday and we will be back".  Castello di Petroia

Hotel Castello di Petroia is a very beautiful IX century authentic medieval fortress with beautifully decorated and comfortable rooms.  The word "castle" conjures up something austere but on the contrary the rooms in this hotel are all extremely comfortable and beautifully decorated with wonderful furniture and high standard on suite facilities.  The oak doors are all double to ensure a peaceful night's sleep.  The public areas include an interesting library, comfortable sitting areas and a wonderful terrace overlooking the Umbrian countryside.  When we saw the covered roof terrace on the very top of the castle with its magnificent outlook we knew this would make the perfect base for a painting holiday.  This 1000 year old Fortresses' claim to fame is that it is the birth place of the famous Federiko da Montefeltro (Duke of Urbino).  The views from every aspect of the hotel are stunning.  Views than inspired Piero della Francesca and Perugino and are recognisable in their work.  The location offers painters a magnificent landscape to paint.  The hotel is surrounded by 800 hectares of land with many marked walking trails and horseriding can be organised.  The hotel has a large swimming pool.  When weather doesn't permit al fresco dining, guests will use the cosy candle lit restaurant.  The restaurant is very well known for its excellent food as the hotel chef, Massimo Carleo, trained under the famous chef Gualtiero Marchesi.  On Friday evenings there is an astromony evening when guests can search the galaxy for star formations and view planets through a very high powered telescope with a professional guide who will show you what you're looking at.
