After leaving school, Elizabeth took a Foundation Course in Art and Design at Manchester Polytechnic. She then read Fine Art at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne where she won both the John Christie Prize for Painting and the Oliver Hicks Memorial Prize.  Elizabeth has had many exhibitions in the UK and Italy and her work has been included in The Royal Society of Watercolours Summer Exhibition.  Elizabeth was chosen from International Artists to contribute to the publication ‘The Watercolour Skies and Clouds Techniques of 23 International Artists’, published by International Artist Publishing.

Elizabeth has lived in Tuscany since 1995.  During that time she has become very knowledgeable about the region and its history and is a sought after painting tutor.  She now lives in Montisi in the Siena area where she has a studio in the town centre.  Elizabeth has continued teaching privately and groups for over 20 years.

Elizabeth said “Tuscany is a land of contrasts, with its rolling hills and olive groves, hilltop towns and medieval cities.  I find the combination of its lights and rhythms an ideal inspiration for my work.  In my watercolours, I seek to depict fleeting moments – sunsets, rolling clouds, misty sunrises and the effects of light.  And in my oils, I like to portray the rich textures, colours and shapes of the Tuscan landscape, described by dark shadows and intense light".

MESSAGE FROM  ELIZABETH:

Question:  "What can I expect from the week?"  Read Elizabeth's reply:

"The energy created by a group of painters working together painting their visions of similar subjects is an inspiration to any level of artist.

I am experienced with watercolour , acrylic and oil painting and have been painting for 30 years. I hope to transmit my particular interest in light and atmosphere in landscape in whatever medium you choose to work in.  I like to use an impressionist  palette and look for aerial perspective and reflected light in the subjects I choose to paint.

I have a lot of experience teaching beginners and groups.  I will give some simple demonstrations on different  themes each day depending on the subject we will be painting so that beginners can practice some simpler subjects.  I will be free for advice to help you on your path through your personal interpretations of this beautiful place .

My aim is to give you all some ideas and techniques that will improve your painting and inspired you. For beginners in the group, I hope that you will go back home  a more confident painter".
