"Excellent sums it up. This was one of my best ever holidays. The painting tuition was fantastic. I really felt I had achieved something by the end of the week. The hotel was spectacular and all of the staff, from the moment I arrived, were outstanding. Thank you for organising every detail. Ten days of this would be absolutely splendid..."

"The hotel was the best I had ever stayed in, with beautifully tiered and well kept gardens, faultless rooms and helpful and friendly staff".

We decided a painting holiday in Sicily just had to be added to our increasing number of destinations.  After looking at several beautiful towns in Sicily we decided on the picturesque town of Taormina.  The choice of hotel wasn't difficult.  Hotel Belvedere can definitely lay claim to one of the prime positions in Taormina.  It was constructed at the turn of the last centry built by the grandfather of the present owners which ensures the great care that goes into the maintenance of this lovely hotel and the warmth of the hotel staff.  The gardens are wonderful with flowers bordering all the walkways and paintable garden terraces leading down from the hotel to the pool.  The pool has a spectacular view out over the brilliant blue sea of the Naxos Bay and inland looks up to Mount Etna. The friendliness of the hotel staff, the gorgeous gardens and superb setting makes Hotel Belvedere a gem of a find.

Conquered over and over again through the centuries, Sicily still shows the marks left by the Arabian, Norman, Swabian and Spanish dominations; however, still today the most admired monument of the island is the Greek Theatre in Taormina which stands out as a proud evidence of the Greek colonization of the island.  Taormina hugs the crest of a small peninsular that juts out to the sea with Mount Etna behind.  Steep cliffs drop to the unbelievably blue sea.  Quaint streets wind through the colourful town where you can browse in the many smart boutiques, sip a cappuccino at a small cafe or simply enjoy the incredible view.  Taormina is a popular destination for tourists and therefore has many excellent restaurants and bars.  Taormina also has an important archaeological site, the Greek Theater, which was built by the Greeks in the 3rd century BC.  There is a beautiful public garden next to the hotel which also offers many paintable scenes.  A week will be too short!
