JOHN BOOTH - PAINTING TUTOR

John Booth lives in the UK in Norwich. He has had a career as both an artist and a teacher. As an artist he works primarily with acrylics, watercolours and pen and ink. He has exhibited his work throughout his career both in one-man shows and mixed exhibitions including the Royal Academy. As a teacher he was, for ten years, Head of Art at Oundle School in Northamptonshire before moving to Eton College where he was Drawing Master and Head of Art for twenty-two years. In his time at Eton the Drawing Schools were very much a social centre for the pupils and staff at the school. There were always exhibitions of work in the school galleries. As the popularity of the subject increased so the staff grew with specialist teachers in painting, printmaking, sculpture and ceramics. When the school acquired the Barrett Brownings Casa Guidi in Florence, John Booth took a party of senior pupils to paint for a week in the city every year. The popularity of the subject led the school to rebuild the Drawing Schools. This was a three million pound project and Eton College, on his retirement, had the largest department in any secondary school in the country.

John was been a much loved tutor for Painting in Italy for five years since its start in 2004.  We are very happy that he has agreed to tutor for us once again in 2017 even if it is only for one week!
