Umbria is known as The Green Heart of Italy. It is less commercialised than its neighbour Tuscany and therefore in our opinion more tranquil and a more traditional Italy. Umbria has a very rich history which means even the smallest of towns has surprisingly grand rich architecture dating back to the 12th century. The area of Citta di Castello has many famous paintings by Renaissance artists such as Pierro della Francesca. We have planned the excursions on Programme A so that those interested in Art History will be able to see some of these very famous paintings and frescoes. These visits are not compulsory. Guests are free to do what they want during the excursions.
The cooking tuition takes place each morning (5 mornings) in Claudio, the tutor’s, home that is a five minute drive from the hotel. It is a beautiful 20 minute walk along the ridge of a hill for those that prefer to walk. See www.cookinginumbria.com
For partners/friends that do not want to paint or cook there are a number of activities which can be arranged. There is a thermal spa for thermal treatments, massage and beauty treatments. Please see their website: www.termedifontecchio.it There is a golf course and riding centre a short distance from the town - www.fattoriacaldese.eu Italian language classes can also be arranged. These extras are not included in the price.
