Soraya is a contemporary artist, tutor and author.  She combines a  successful exhibiting career   with writing for  the  Uk’s leading art publication  ‘’The Artist’’ magazine and carrying out occasional experimental workshops both at home and abroad.    The success of her art books commissioned by HarperCollins have brought her international recognition and following.  Soraya’s  next art publication titled Contemporary landscapes in mixed media is  to be published in the spring 2017.   She is currently the president of The  Society of women artists and exhibits her work with them annually at the Mall galleries.  Soraya  works in all painting media but is particularly  known for her vibrant  mixed media paintings.   Use of vibrant colours, light   and expressive textures  are  prominent  features of her work.   The ambiguity  and evocative quality in her painting, leaves  something for the viewer’s imagination.    She has been the recipient of a number of prestigious art awards in the last few years and her  work is held in many private and public collections both at home and abroad.

Soraya’s studio is located at Project workshops(www.project-workshop.co.uk ) in Quarley nr Andover, where she works and runs occasional two day workshops.  A selection of her paintings and prints can be viewed at the studio by appointment and at their two open studio weekends in May and December.   For details of workshops and forthcoming events and exhibitions please visit  www.sorayafrench.com .

Question:  "What can I expect from the week?"  Read Soraya's reply:

“I have worked in all painting media over the years, but for quite a few years now I have loved and enjoyed  the interaction of different media together and the endless possibilities this kind of work offers  During the week, I hope that we cover all aspects of what makes a successful painting, such as colour mixing and colour  relationships, composition, gathering ideas, various techniques and so on.  You can choose to fill in a sketch pad with quick, spontaneous sketches in pen and ink, watercolours,  pastels, pencils or charcoal. Alternatively choose to set up for a full painting in a medium of your choice.  Or better still a bit of each.  There will be plenty of guidance during the tuition times and some appraisal in the afternoon on works done during the morning sessions, plus some question and answers and problem solving”.  Soraya French
